As we watch the devastating fires impact our neighbors in Los Angeles, our hearts are with everyone affected by this crisis. While we may be miles apart here in San Diego, there are still meaningful ways we can extend our support.   I want to share important resources that can assist those affected during this challenging time. CA Wildfire/Natural Disaster Resources As we navigate the challenges posed by wildfires, it's essential to stay informed and prepared. The Governor's executive order: Governor Newsom issued an executive order barring opportunist and predatory investors from making unsolicited undervalued offers to families impacted by the wildfires to buy their land or take advantage by offering fast cash for destroyed property.

This Governor's executive order: - Makes unsolicited undervalued offers to purchase property from property owners in specified zip codes of Los Angeles County unlawful for a period of three months from the date of this Order.  - Directs the Department of Real Estate, along with other state agencies, to provide notice to the public of their rights under the law, resources for more information, and contact information for law enforcement agencies, such as the Attorney General’s Office and District Attorney, with the power to enforce the prohibition. IRS and California give tax relief to California fire victims Source: Forbes The IRS has announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Southern California affected by the wildfires that began on Jan. 7, 2025. Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California’s Franchise Tax Board is providing similar tax relief. Under the IRS announcement, impacted taxpayers now have until Oct. 15, 2025 to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. The IRS relief applies to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, so individuals and households that reside or have a business in Los Angeles County qualify for tax relief. The relief will be available to any other counties added later to the disaster area as listed on the “Tax relief in disaster situations” page on IRS.gov. The tax relief postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred from Jan. 7, 2025 through Oct. 15, 2025 (postponement period). This allows individuals and businesses until Oct. 15, 2025 to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period. Read more here.
